As of 01.01.2023, the application of ship paints containing “cybutryne” on ships has been banned in Turkey. On 01.01.2023, the procedures to be applied on ships with cybutryne-containing paint on their surfaces were determined.
The new decision was announced in the letter dated 27.12.2022 and numbered 871631 of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Shipyards and Coastal Structures.
With the decision numbered MEPC.331 (76) adopted on 17.06.2021, the basis of the Ship Paint Regulation, which regulates the basic requirements of the organic pollution prevention systems used in the hulls of the ships in Turkey, is the International Convention on the Control of Harmful Organic Anti-Attachment Systems on Ships. (2001) Annex-1 was modified.
With the changes made, it was announced that as of 01.01.2023, the application of ship paints containing “cybutryne” on ships was prohibited. In addition, the procedures to be applied on ships that are within the scope of the exception and which have cybutryne-containing paint on their surfaces on 01.01.2023 are also specified in the relevant article.
